Lying , Cheating , Stealing (Is it ever ethical to lie, cheat or steal, and if so what would be the circumstance?)
Hi my name is John Stuart Mill and I am philosopher, economist, moral and political theorist. The general idea of my philosophy is to create an actual view of the universe and the place of humans in it, one which grants to the breakthrough of human knowledge, individual freedom and human-well being. I think lying, cheating and stealing is considered an unethical act because you are doing a bad to society. These three actions are the main reasons why our society never prospers. It doesn’t bring any pleasure or happiness to society. Something I am always constantly thinking about is that we humans always want to satisfy our natural needs and ambition sometimes turns out to be a false leadership. Maybe this is the reason why people dedicate to lie, cheat and steal. Also, if people are constantly lying, cheating and stealing they will get used to it like if it is a normal thing to do and they won’t even know they are committing an unethical act. If you want to avoid this unethical acts people show obtain an education and try to be moral and have virtues such as honesty. A reason that make people be unethical are the when someone is committed to a capitalist values they are generally considered to have self-interested opinions. Although, they are constantly interested in material improvement just for themselves and they are suspicious to others although they sometimes have good will. A quote I always tell to people is that “Moral intuitions are said to reveal ends which are superior to those of our worldly nature, superior to mere pleasure and self-interest.”( http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/mill/#MorUti) Many times people do these things because of pleasure or desire and many times for their own happiness. After accomplishing these acts they feel better and well satisfied, but this is an incorrect way to feel good for yourself.

I agree with JOhn Stuart Mill since if something doens't bring happiness then you are not living life as you should. And Lying, cheating and stealing is really wrong that would be taking credit of somenone elses work.

ReplyDeleteHi my name is Jean Jacques Rousseau and I personally think that our current societies are full of unethical acts. Just because they contain unethical acts, means that these acts are right? Of course not, society acts wrong and should never do things such as lying, stealing or cheating.
