Lying, cheating and stealing would be considered ethical if the circumstance applies. A claim in existentialist thought is that individuals are always free to make choices and guide their lives towards their own chosen goal. The claim holds that individuals cannot escape this freedom, even in overwhelming circumstances. Individuals choose for themselves, they know that they must make a choice, and that it will have consequences. Lying, cheating and stealing all fall in the same category, intentional or unintentional consciousness and freedom. Assuming the social roles and values of each individual´s society will make us reflect on the decision we make. We are not conscious with ourselves until we realize that what we are doing is right or wrong. Stealing, lying and cheating would never be considered ethical if the situation does not apply. Lets say for example you are in a situation where the only way you and your family could survive is stealing. Your family is dying, starving to death. Why wouldn´t it be ethical for you to steal some food in order to feed your family? In this case it would be ethical to steal some food for your family because the circumstance applies. It’s your decision, you have the freedom to do whatever you want, and you create your own destiny and freedom. But remember that each individual is responsible for his or her own limitations. Sartre, an existentialist believes that one individual cannot escape responsibility by adopting an external moral system one must take full responsibility for. Sartre argues that, one cannot escape responsibility, it´s everybody’s freedom of choice.

I agree with this blog because sometimes its necessary to lie, cheat or steal in order to achieve a better cause but only if its for doing a good that it is ethical to either lie, cheat or steal. Otherwise, it is wrong.
