When I was alive I saw as my country India was being ruled over by the British. Day to day the conditions of my dear country kept getting worse and worse. I knew something had to be done. Being knowledgeable of Buddhism and Jainism started my own philosophy. It was a philosophy based on non violence. With out a doubt I stand against war and I believe that is an unethical and inhumane way to stand up against a cause. You may think that my philosophy on non violence is a joke and that it would never work, well newsflash, it did work. With my perseverance and the help of more that 100,000 people, we were able to start the Salt March of 1930, which became a vital point in gaining the independence of our country. If we would have been violent and caused riots and wars for the independence of our country we would have lost the lives of many innocent civilians and our independence would have taken more time to acquire. So if you ask me if war is ethical, I will answer you with a sound NO. War is a weapon that is used only by those who do not have the gut to stand for a cause in a pacific and non violent way. My philosophy has been used by others as well and has proved to work, take Martin Luther King Jr. with is non violence movement he was able to accomplish his goal which was equality for the black race. War is not ethical and it is not right as well, all it brings is the death and destruction of nations.
Mohandas Gandhi (Carol Wood)
